Arrow Postholes – building the best fences one post at a time.

At Arrow Postholes, we approach post foundations with unmatched attention to detail and structural resilience. In Windsor‑Essex, frost can penetrate soils up to about 1.0 metre (3.3 ft)—significantly deeper than the often cited 37 inches (just over 3 ft). To protect against frost heave and instability, we drill each hole using the correctly sized auger bit to a minimum depth of 44–48 inches, ensuring the footing is well below the local frost line.

Inside each hole, we place 8–12 inches of high‑quality fence post cement at the bottom, creating a solid “cap” that prevents groundwater from wicking up into the wood—one of the most common causes of rotting and eventual failure. When setting the post, we carefully centre it in the hole and fill the cement up to just below grade, so the wood never contacts soil directly and remains fully protected from moisture and decay. This method dramatically reduces long-term risk and gives your fence or structure the durability it truly needs—far beyond what standard shallow-set methods can provide.
